Pot Limit Omaha Poker 101

Texas Hold’em Poker and Omaha Poker are two games which are played very much alike each other but have differences in overall rules.  Each player of the Omaha Poker is dealt with four cards.  At that certain point, Omaha Poker is played like the Holdem Poker where turns, river and flop are incurred.  After each round, which is when betting occurs.  During a showdown, there should be two cards on each players hand while three cards are placed on the board to be able to make best five card hand.  Of course, the one who has the best hand would win the pot.  The Omaha Poker is played primarily in two ways: the pot limit and the limit.  In this article, we will be using the Pot Limit Omaha which is by far the more popular form of the game.

Omaha Pokeris a game which employs big draws and big cards.  If you have two aces in your starting hands, that is to be considered as best starting hands.  It would be most favorable if you get to have one or two of the Aces suited like the other cards.  An example of a best starting hand in the said game is A, A, K, K, double suited.  This would mean that one A-K is of the same suit while the other one another suit.  Some hands with Aces are not as powerful as some are.  For example, a hand with two aces and where the two cards do not coordinate, then they could be considered as speculative hands.  In this case, you do have aces and nothing more.  When your cards are suited with the aces, it would give you more chances of winning.

Another great hand would be having two queens and two kings.  This would be considered as a top pair.  Likewise, this would hold true as it does with those with a couple of aces.  Those with flush and straight possibilities are far less superior to those who do not have such.  Two pairs are also strong most especially if those two pair are coordinated.  An example of which is:  Js, Jh, Qs and Qh is stronger than Qh, Qs, 7c and 7s.  These are the kind of hands which can be raised pre-flop when someone else has risen.

An Omaha wrap on the other hand means having four consecutive cards making a straight.  The most powerful wrap would be J, 10, 9 and 8 double suited.  This is so, because this hand would let you make a broadway and to the least a nine high straight.  Wrap straights which are lower should be played with caution.  They could easily be outdrawn.

While you are just a beginner learning to play the game, it is recommended not to always play with coordinated hands.  More so, totally unsuited two pair hands and large unsuited wraps should be avoided as they could be potential in letting you lose.

Pot Limit Omaha betting is quite different if compared to most games. The first player to open the betting could rise to seven more than the small blind.  After which, the next raise is subsequent to the amount of the pot.  Some players would bet a full amount to make the pot money grow bigger and to protect their hand.  The Pot Limit Omaha could also be considered as an action game.  This is because of its drawing nature.

Players need to be extra careful and pay attention to the board while playing the Plot Limit Omaha.  This is where you will know where your hand stands.  During the game, you should draw to the nut or hold the nuts otherwise you will end up a loser.  When you see that the board is paired and one more opponent is in the hand, then it is time for you to get out.  There would always be exceptions, as situations come up.  As a beginner, it is most recommended to be observant of all possibilities.

The swings of the Pot Limit Omaha are unlike any other game thus making it a high action one.  Players should be able to develop his own solid strategy to maximize his winning potential.
