Pot Limit Poker Guidelines

18 Oct , 2008 - Posted by Dan in Omaha Poker

Although Omaha Poker is a game that is played like Texas Hold’em poker but has unique differences in the overall rules which starts as each player is dealt four cards. The game is played much like holdem with a flop, turn, and river and the betting occurs after each round as in Holdem from that point. To make their best five card hand at showdown players must use two cards in their hand and three cards on the board. The one who has the best hand wins the pot.  Omaha can be played in two forms, either limit or pot limit (which is more popular).

The best starting hands are those that have two aces in Omaha Poker which is a game of big cards and big draws or one or both of the Aces suited with other cards. Not all hands with Aces are created identical.  The best would probably be hands with two aces but two cards that do not coordinate are speculative hands. Not only do you have a pair of aces, you also have multiple straight draws. If your cards are suited as well, particularly suited with the aces, that offers you even more outs to win.  When you start with a hand containing that has two aces, most of the time you will raise the pot pre-flop.

Hands with two kings and two queens as their top pair just examples of other great hands. Flush possibilities are superior because not all Pokerhands are equal and the hands with straight.  These are hands that can also be passing in for a raise pre-flop, unless only call if someone else has raised.

Virgin Poker

If someone says that they have a wrap in Omaha, they are not talking about their lunch but Omaha is four consecutive cards that can create a straight.  J-10-9-8 double suited is the strongest wrap. This will allow you to make any straight from a 9 high straight to broadway.  Lower wrap straights must to be played with carefulness as they can be trap hands like for example s hand such as 3-4-5-6 can be easily outdrawn.  These are limping hands while you are learning to play the game you can naturally call a raise pre-flop with these hands

While you are learning the game at least not all coordinated hands should be played. get out If the flop does not improve your hand and  playing only unsuited wraps and big pairs either in the blind or in a very loose game is optional.

The first player to open betting can raised up to seven times the small blind which makes Betting in Pot-Limit Omaha is a little different in most games. Each subsequent raise is the amount of the pot after the initial raise, a lot of times players will tend to bet the full amount of the pot to either protect their hand, or to get more money into the pot while other bet amounts are allowed.  You will discover that Pot Limit Omaha is also an action game not for the faint of heart.  Many people will see a flop and stay in a pot after the flop due to the different possibilities their hand possesses because of the drawing nature of the game.  PLO is more popular than holdem In many parts of Europe and in fact, more money typical goes into a pot in a pot limit Omaha game than it is in a No-limit holdem game.

Know where you hand stands at all times and you need to pay careful attention to the board in Pot Limit Omaha.  In lower limit games where fewer people will fold pre-flop in especially Omaha, you need to be drawing to the nut or holding the nuts or you will typically be the loser.  Get out if you hold a straight and there is a probable flush and if the board paired and there is more than one opponent in the hand.  You need to consider getting out of the hand when your hand is 2nd nut or lower.

From No Limit Holdem to Limit Holdem Games

18 Oct , 2008 - Posted by Dan in Texas Holdem

With the way television has popularized No Limit Holdem, it comes as no surprise that many beginners choose to learn this form of Holdem. They find the excitement of gambling for all their chips just irresistible. But back in the days, Limit Holdem was the game played in most cash games. Even today, the games with much higher stakes are still limit holdem Poker Games. So if you want to switch from no limit to limit holdem, here are a few things you need to know.

In limit holdem, pushing Poker players out of a hand is more difficult than it is in no limit holdem games. For example, when a player has a middle or a bottom pair, it will be easier to make a call when the bet is equal only to 10% of their entire stack or less. Folding a weak hand may even be a wrong thing to do even if a player is beat, depending on the pot size.

It is also much more common to draw to straights and flushes when playing a limit holdem Poker game because betting becomes more limited. If a player has a flush draw or an open ended straight draw, it is not very likely that he will get the right price to chase down a draw.

Virgin Poker

You are not likely to see players bluffing at lower limit games. This is largely because it is difficult to make your opponent fold to one bet if they really have nothing in their hand. If he is in a hand until the river, it is more likely that he will not fold a hand unless he has missed a draw. Bluffing is more a thing for games with higher limits where the bet sizes are larger. However, keep in mind that bluffing at higher limits will not have the same power as in a no limit game.

A good skill to learn and use when playing limit holdem is the ability to extract extra bets and to know when to save bets. This Poker game is about winning bets and not taking stacks. While in no limit holdem you can be on the losing end for four to five hours and hit it big with a couple of monster hands in the end, two hands will not make up for your losses in limit holdem. Your goal in limit holdem is to keep people in and extract bets from them when you are ahead. You should also know when to save bets. Although it may contradict the earlier advice to stay in for pot odds, it isn’t. For example, you have a flush on the river but there is four of your suit on board. You may want to check in this situation. If another player bets, you will call and may lose one bet. But if you bet and your opponent raises, then you will lose two bets to the better flush. Learn to scrutinize whether a spot will keep your losses down and improve your standing or not.

These tips will be helpful in jumpstarting your move from no limit to limit holdem. As you go along, you will learn more about how this variant of holdem is played.

Short Handed No Limit Holdem Games

18 Oct , 2008 - Posted by Dan in Texas Holdem

Arguably the most challenging form of Holdem, short handed No Limit Holdem requires a skill in reading your competitors well and making the necessary adjustments you’ll need but would not normally make in a full ring game. This is great if you want to develop your tactical skills in playing the game as no Limit Holdem games prove to be intense psychological games between players. You stand to learn a lot playing no limit games. But first, let us look at a few sets in short handed Poker play.

Short handed plays will make you change the way you think about and play lower pairs. There is almost a one in eight chance that you will flop a set when playing a pair. This means you have a strong hand. In short handed no limit Holdem, you need to pay more attention to implied odds rather than to pot odds. Imagine this situation: you have pocket fours and have to call a $20 pre-flop raise and your competitor has $400.  Hitting your set on the flop might just give you a good portion or at best all of the other players stack. This means you’ll have to play more single pairs.

Virgin Poker

But if you miss the flop on a single pair, you can still get away with minor losses. There are times (and this happens often) that missing a flop means you’ll have to fold to a bet from one of your Pokeropponents. There are also times when you’ll be playing against someone that raised pre-flop with a pair or a hand. They can check you on the flop. When this happens, you can draw to another free card to hit your set.

If you’re thinking of slow playing when you hit your set, consider a few factors. If the board flops with a potential draw, the best thing would be to make your opponent pay to draw out on you. If there is little risk of slow playing on the board you have, check your opponent to make him bet, especially if you think they’ve already hit a top pair or have a pair. This can be done too if your opponent appears to be hyper aggressive.

There will always be those time when you and your opponent have sets and they out-flop or outdraw your set. Some will chase bad with draws and hit, and some will call with an over pair and hit. This is just all part of the Pokergame. Most of the time, you will win when you flop a set. The odds are not so much against you so you might as well play like every set is a win.

17 Oct , 2008 - Posted by Dan in World Series of Poker

I am always questioning a lot of comrades as well as poker participants regarding which events they must take part in at the World Series of Poker plus how much cash should they pay out. Several of what you wish for to engage in recreation and how many cash you will desire to pay out will rely on some issues. Let us inspect some of those.

Initially, what event that for yourself is your most excellent game? A lot of competitors that are merely Holdem competitors just seemed to be at this piece of writing in complete bewilderment. The WSOP is the set of more than 50 competitions. Whereas No Limit Holdem Poker was the majority well-liked pastime in the humanity, you include a lot of extra games to put up with. Omaha, 7 card stud, Omaha Hi/Lo Split, Seven Card Stud 8 or Better, 2-7 Lowball, Razz Poker, and H.O.R.S.E. are every event that most took part in yearly at the WSOP.

If you prepared playing Holdem, easily are you enhanced at Limit otherwise No-Limit. When you are middling No-Limit competitor and a usual champion at limit, and you will desire to amuse yourself in limit holdem. If your top game is Stud, you will desire to have fun in stud. One more kindness is when you have the nearly all winner about to competitions. For myself, my best amusement is Stud 8 or Better. Nevertheless, at the occasion that I engaged my first WSOP in 2006, I was presenting well again in general outcome in Limit Holdem games. Accordingly, I participated in Event No. 4, which Limit Holdem. I prepared the cash of the occasion.

Virgin Poker

Following you make a decision what you desire to participate, you wish for to settle on how a lot you desire to expend. Do you wish for to buy-in straight to the category or settlement your opening? If you would like to outpost your entrance, how a lot does the occasion price you desire to take part in. If you feel like to go into a 1,500 dollars game, you will have to amuse yourself with $175 satellites. If you desire to participate in 2,000 dollars games, you will require playing the 225 dollars. The satellites ascend along with the commitment of the game. I would suggest spend down with than 3 – 4 satellite admissions to attempt and succeed your opening. If you can’t succeed your doorway, attempt once more for a dissimilar games or commitment directly.

If you desire to impression the force of containing to succeed a satellite, next postpone the cash for buy-in as well as then take part in satellites to undertake and put aside cash. In my opinion, the afterward is the move toward I obtain. Consequently, I postpone approximately 2,200 dollars for every event. I didn’t even play satellites for the first Poker event which was again a Limit Holdem event for the 2007 WSOP. Luckily, I completed just fine in the cash and was capable of disburse the majority of my additional entry for the sequence with the cash won.

So to appraisal, take part in the competition that provides you the most excellent possibility to excel. Then make a decision the plan of hit to come into the Poker games. Away from that, build a financial plan for the cash you wish for to pay out for money games and keepsakes and attach to that diagram. Relax and enjoy at the World Series of Poker!

Holdem Poker’s Limp Reraise

16 Oct , 2008 - Posted by Dan in Texas Holdem

A limp reraise is a type of move in Texas Hold’em Poker. It is best used when your opponents have been doing a lot or raising and tries to steal your blinds.

Shana Hiatt

Shana Hiatt

A lot of players do like using this tactic, most especially on sit-n-go tournaments of Poker. For those tight poker players where aggressive players would always try to steal your blinds whenever given an opportunity, this type of tactic would be very helpful.

Following is a good example where the limp reraise tactic was put into good use. At a table, one player (let us call him player 1), raised a lot during the early part of the play. Player 1 took a pot off player 2 giving him a semi bluff which eventually hit on the river. Being in an early position, player 2 is looking down on a pocket of kings. Player 2 could sense that player 1 badly wanted to raise. Player 2 limped into the pot while player 1 is on the button. Another player, player 3, who is in a late position, raised the pot. Suddenly, player 1 reraised the pot and then player 2 moved all in.

Virgin Poker

Each and every Poker player on the table gave player 2 a stunned look. The player who initially raised mucked his hands saying “nice limp”. Player 3 on the other hand, gave player 2 a set and eventually flipped over the pocket tens and all he had to do was shake his head in dismay. All the players agreed that it was indeed a good move.

The example was based on a true scene during a play. Players should not discount the fact that there would be downsides to this kind of play. You’ll never know what moves the other players would do and what might happen next.

The limp reraise is not to be considered as a regular play. It is just a move, a tactic wherein some situations might call for. Nevertheless, players should understand that the case would not always be the same as the abovementioned example. The limp reraise, when used and executed the right way and at the perfect timing, it would assure to accomplish two things for the player who executed it. First and foremost, the player would most possibly win chips and second, the Poker player would eventually put all the other players in a state of confusion. All the other players would think that you are of course in your best capacity to limp in with monsters. More so, they would also be afraid to make the raise if they are holding on to strong hands.

As a piece of advice, this move is most recommended when you are in Poker Games which are very aggressive. Never use this tactic during rocky games because it would usually make you look like a poor and pitiful player and eventually you would end up loosing all your money. Always try mixing up your play because it might cause you to earn dividends. See you at the tables and may you always win.

Texas Holdem: Tournaments vs. Cash Games

16 Oct , 2008 - Posted by Dan in Poker Tournaments|Texas Holdem

A lot has changed about the way people play Texas Hold’em Poker. While tournaments shown on television have greatly popularized the game, cash tournaments bring an added dimension and excitement for avid Poker players. It’s still the same game, only this time the stakes are higher. In tournaments, poker players bring home praises and acknowledgment for their skills. In cash games, they play to bring home the prize money. As the motives for playing are changed, so do the styles of playing the Poker Games.

Tournaments

There is still money involved in playing poker tournaments. When you come into the game, you shell out a certain amount of money to get a specific amount of chips. However, the amount of chips you have does not necessarily equal the amount of money you give at the beginning of the game. A Poker player can pay $5 to enter a tournament and be given $1000 worth of chips. Your main goal is not to emerge as the winner but to come out near the top of the leader board and finish with as much winnings as possible.

Your Strategy: The Check Down

Teaming up with other players makes it easier to eliminate a competitor in a tournament. This strategy is called the check down. This happens when a player is all in and gets multiple calls. All players who called will then check to the showdown, increasing the odds of eliminating the all in player. As more and more players are eliminated from the game, you move yourself up the board.

Here’s an example of a bad play: player A moves all in, player B (A –K) and player C (9 – 9) calls. The flop turns out 9 – 10 – 2, with player C betting and player B folding. The cards are turned face up and player A has a hand of 8 – 7 and the turn comes Q and the river J. This means that player A makes a straight and is not eliminated. Had player C checked down, player B would have made a bigger straight, eliminating player A.

Virgin Poker

Whenever you get the chance, try to eliminate other Poker players in tournaments. The smaller the number of competitors, the better the odds that you will win – or at least finish way up in the pay scale. Another important thing to take note of is the stack size. Players need to control the number of chips they have because that is all they get. Also, you have to make sure that you can afford the risk of playing in a particular pot size and playing against a certain bet amount. Blinds will help you increase your win in a tournament so be sure you stay ahead of them throughout the game. High blinds when you are low on chips may force you to go all in with a weak hand.

Cash Games

In cash games, the amount of money you buy in for is the amount of money you play with. During the game, you can always top the amount you came in with to make sure you maximize your win when you get a good hand. Blinds remain at a fixed amount in cash games and checks are not necessary because your goal is not to eliminate your competitors but rather to make the most money possible for yourself.

Your Strategy: The Straddle Bet

Basically, this means you’re buying the big blind. A player under the gun will have the chance to increase the stakes to play at every hand. Let’s say the blind is set at $1/$2. The player under the gun can put in $4 before he gets his cards, buying the big blind. The stakes are thus increased for that particular hand and you will then have to put in the straddle amount to call. You can choose to double the straddle and the person next of the straddle can re-straddle. This creates action in the game because more people will be in the pot and the standard raises will increase.

When in cash games, your main goal is to make really good hands and get a good deal of money for them. Suited connectors disguise your hand strength and can help you stack your opponents. Unlike in tournaments where you need to take care of your chips, cash games allow you to dig into your pocket when you run out of money for playing. You can stay on the game as long as you wish. Here, there are practically no rules. You can show a card to your opponent or leave and then go back to play any time without paying post blinds.

Both are still Texas Holdem. It’s the same game. It’s just played on two different platforms. One good thing about playing in a tournament is the worst you stand to lose is the money with which you buy in. In cash games, you could lose a great deal more. So if you’re not the type who can risk a whole lot of money, just stick to tournaments.

Pot Limit Omaha Poker 101

Pot Limit Omaha Poker 101

Pot Limit Omaha Poker 101

Texas Hold’em Poker and Omaha Poker are two games which are played very much alike each other but have differences in overall rules.  Each player of the Omaha Poker is dealt with four cards.  At that certain point, Omaha Poker is played like the Holdem Poker where turns, river and flop are incurred.  After each round, which is when betting occurs.  During a showdown, there should be two cards on each players hand while three cards are placed on the board to be able to make best five card hand.  Of course, the one who has the best hand would win the pot.  The Omaha Poker is played primarily in two ways: the pot limit and the limit.  In this article, we will be using the Pot Limit Omaha which is by far the more popular form of the game.

Omaha Pokeris a game which employs big draws and big cards.  If you have two aces in your starting hands, that is to be considered as best starting hands.  It would be most favorable if you get to have one or two of the Aces suited like the other cards.  An example of a best starting hand in the said game is A, A, K, K, double suited.  This would mean that one A-K is of the same suit while the other one another suit.  Some hands with Aces are not as powerful as some are.  For example, a hand with two aces and where the two cards do not coordinate, then they could be considered as speculative hands.  In this case, you do have aces and nothing more.  When your cards are suited with the aces, it would give you more chances of winning.

Another great hand would be having two queens and two kings.  This would be considered as a top pair.  Likewise, this would hold true as it does with those with a couple of aces.  Those with flush and straight possibilities are far less superior to those who do not have such.  Two pairs are also strong most especially if those two pair are coordinated.  An example of which is:  Js, Jh, Qs and Qh is stronger than Qh, Qs, 7c and 7s.  These are the kind of hands which can be raised pre-flop when someone else has risen.

An Omaha wrap on the other hand means having four consecutive cards making a straight.  The most powerful wrap would be J, 10, 9 and 8 double suited.  This is so, because this hand would let you make a broadway and to the least a nine high straight.  Wrap straights which are lower should be played with caution.  They could easily be outdrawn.

Virgin Poker

While you are just a beginner learning to play the game, it is recommended not to always play with coordinated hands.  More so, totally unsuited two pair hands and large unsuited wraps should be avoided as they could be potential in letting you lose.

Pot Limit Omaha betting is quite different if compared to most games. The first player to open the betting could rise to seven more than the small blind.  After which, the next raise is subsequent to the amount of the pot.  Some players would bet a full amount to make the pot money grow bigger and to protect their hand.  The Pot Limit Omaha could also be considered as an action game.  This is because of its drawing nature.

Players need to be extra careful and pay attention to the board while playing the Plot Limit Omaha.  This is where you will know where your hand stands.  During the game, you should draw to the nut or hold the nuts otherwise you will end up a loser.  When you see that the board is paired and one more opponent is in the hand, then it is time for you to get out.  There would always be exceptions, as situations come up.  As a beginner, it is most recommended to be observant of all possibilities.

The swings of the Pot Limit Omaha are unlike any other game thus making it a high action one.  Players should be able to develop his own solid strategy to maximize his winning potential.
