From No Limit Holdem to Limit Holdem Games
With the way television has popularized No Limit Holdem, it comes as no surprise that many beginners choose to learn this form of Holdem. They find the excitement of gambling for all their chips just irresistible. But back in the days, Limit Holdem was the game played in most cash games. Even today, the games with much higher stakes are still limit holdem Poker Games. So if you want to switch from no limit to limit holdem, here are a few things you need to know.
In limit holdem, pushing Poker players out of a hand is more difficult than it is in no limit holdem games. For example, when a player has a middle or a bottom pair, it will be easier to make a call when the bet is equal only to 10% of their entire stack or less. Folding a weak hand may even be a wrong thing to do even if a player is beat, depending on the pot size.
It is also much more common to draw to straights and flushes when playing a limit holdem Poker game because betting becomes more limited. If a player has a flush draw or an open ended straight draw, it is not very likely that he will get the right price to chase down a draw.
You are not likely to see players bluffing at lower limit games. This is largely because it is difficult to make your opponent fold to one bet if they really have nothing in their hand. If he is in a hand until the river, it is more likely that he will not fold a hand unless he has missed a draw. Bluffing is more a thing for games with higher limits where the bet sizes are larger. However, keep in mind that bluffing at higher limits will not have the same power as in a no limit game.
A good skill to learn and use when playing limit holdem is the ability to extract extra bets and to know when to save bets. This Poker game is about winning bets and not taking stacks. While in no limit holdem you can be on the losing end for four to five hours and hit it big with a couple of monster hands in the end, two hands will not make up for your losses in limit holdem. Your goal in limit holdem is to keep people in and extract bets from them when you are ahead. You should also know when to save bets. Although it may contradict the earlier advice to stay in for pot odds, it isn’t. For example, you have a flush on the river but there is four of your suit on board. You may want to check in this situation. If another player bets, you will call and may lose one bet. But if you bet and your opponent raises, then you will lose two bets to the better flush. Learn to scrutinize whether a spot will keep your losses down and improve your standing or not.
